Enable Designer for products

Printlane has now been successfully installed on your store. To activate the designer for a product, we need the unique ID of the template in Printlane. Once we have that, you can enable the designer for the product.

Step 1: Get familiar with the unique Template ID

  1. Open Printlane Studio.
  2. Edit a template by clicking on the pencil icon.
  3. Write down or memorize the value of the Template ID field.
The unique template ID
  • Edit any product in your Ecwid store.
  • Click on the Attributes tab and enter the template ID in the printlane attribute field. This links the product to the template corresponding to the ID you entered.
Printlane attribute
  • If the Printlane attribute is missing, you can add it by clicking on Manage Attributes.
Add new Printlane attribute

WARNING

The Printlane attribute must always be set to "Show." If it is set to "Do not show," the designer will not be activated.

  • Add Text Field option to store the design reference

When the end-user clicks "Add to Cart" in the Printlane Designer, a unique reference for their design is generated. This reference is stored in the order line using a Text Field option.

The option must be of type Text Field, named design reference, and should be optional (not required).

The option in which the design reference is stored

That's it! Open the product page in your Ecwid store. It will display a button Personalize instead of Add to cart. You can customize the product by clicking on the Personalize button.

Read our full guide on Creating templates if you like to create and link your own templates.

Read this if you want to:

  • Enable Printlane Designer for specific product variants.
  • Assign different templates to each product variant.

The printlane attribute we added earlier controls which template (using the template ID) opens in the Printlane Designer when the "Personalize" button is clicked.

To disable the Printlane Designer for a variant or assign a different template, simply remove or update the value of the printlane attribute.

You can easily manage this using Ecwid's built-in product bulk editor.

1. Edit a product in the bulk editor

2. Remove or change the value of the printlane attribute

On this form, you can either remove or update the value of the printlane attribute. Removing the value will deactivate the designer, while changing it will load a different template in the designer.

Frequently asked questions

I've received an order, how do I see it's design?

Every customized order line has a unique Printlane reference, for example 1.03dc0b02-8431-4ac8-9bfa-f32d279554d5: Design reference in order detail

The first part before the dot is a number, 1. This is the ID of the design, a number that increases automatically when creating more designs. You can lookup the ID in the list of designs in Printlane Studio.

Paste the ID 1 in the Search by ID filter on top of the page and click on the search-button to find the corresponding design: Design reference in order detail

Did you know you can also lookup orders in Printlane Studio? This page shows all orders that contain at least one order line with a design reference. Orders and order lines without referenced designs are not available in Printlane due to data processing regulations.
