What is a template?

In Printlane, a template is similar to a product in your online store, but it also defines how the product can be customized. It includes essential settings such as:

  • Where customers can add text

  • Which fonts can be used

  • Whether customers can upload their own pictures

  • The required resolution for all graphics

  • The types of artwork that can be added

  • What types of artwork can be added

When a customer opens the designer for a customizable product in your store, it loads the corresponding template, which includes all these settings.

Overview of templates

In the overview of templates, you can see all templates available in your account. If you haven't created any template yourself, you will see some example templates from Printlane's library.

Next to each template in the list, you'll see options to:

  • Preview the template

  • Copy the template

  • Edit the template

  • Delete the template

Preview a template

To preview a template in the Printlane Designer, click the eye-icon button on the right side of the template in the list.

This will open the Designer with the selected template loaded. The Designer appears as an overlay on the page, just as it would when integrated into your website or online store.

Creating a design

When the Printlane Designer is open, click the Add to Cart button to create a new design. Unlike in an online store, Printlane Studio does not have a shopping cart. Instead, you will be redirected to the Designs Overview, where the newly created design appears at the top of the list.

Copying a template

Easily create new templates in Printlane Studio by copying an existing one:

  1. Go to the Template Overview.

  2. Click the Copy button next to the template you want to duplicate.

  3. Enter a Name and a unique Template ID for the new template.

  4. Click Copy to finalize.

The copied template is an exact duplicate of the original. Any changes made to one will not affect the other.

Deleting a Template

To delete a template, click the Delete button in the Template Overview. After confirming, the template will be permanently removed.

Designs created using this template will not be deleted.
