In the export settings screen, you can define how your customers’ designs are exported from Printlane Studio.
Export size
The export size is determined by the working unit of your template and its dimensions (width and height). If you change the export size to an area, the dimensions will automatically adjust to match the selected area.
Export layers
By default, the export includes the background image and all layers you have created. To exclude the template or specific layers, simply uncheck their checkboxes.
File type
You can export designs in three different formats:
PDF document (default)
Contains individual layers.
Texts are converted to outlines automatically.
Colors can be converted with a color conversion profile like CMYK
PNG Image
A plain image containing transparency.
Images are included and converted to web-friendly sRGB.
PDF document (PNG based)
A PDF document containing one layer.
Images are included and converted to web-friendly sRGB.
The single layer contains a transparent PNG image matching the PNG export.
Which file type should you use?
This depends on how you process in-store orders:
If you use graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, we recommend a PDF export because it includes additional metadata such as DPI, which helps in preparing print-ready files.
If you need a PDF but don't need it to be editable, you can choose PDF document (PNG based), which will result in a PDF containing a PNG in web-friendly sRGB.
If you only need a reference image of the customer’s design, the PNG format is sufficient.
Color Conversion profile
When exporting to PDF, you can select a destination color profile. By default, this is set to web-friendly sRGB. You can change the color profile by navigating to Export settings → Export layers → Advanced → Color conversion profile in the template settings.
To export PDFs with CMYK colors, select a different color profile from the available options. The following elements will be converted to the chosen color profile if necessary:
Text layer colors
Artwork colorization colors
Images without an embedded color profile (assumed to be sRGB)
Images with a different source profile than the selected destination profile
Text layers and artwork colorization colors originally defined in CMYK will remain unchanged when using a CMYK destination profile, ensuring their values are preserved without conversion.
For Spot colors, the specified alternate color values (RGB or CMYK) are always retained, as they simulate the appearance of the spot color when the output device cannot render it.
If you require a specific CMYK color conversion profile that isn’t listed, please contact Printlane Support to have it added to your account.
